More and more people from villages and communities in the department of Boaco are coming to Clinica Verde to find relief for their illnesses. Dionisio and his father Juan came from the village of Santa Lucia, some 20 minutes away from the city center of Boaco.
Dionisio said he heard many good things about Clinica Verde before coming. “We were told that that the attention here is very good and the medications are high-quality,” he said. It was Dionisio’s first visit to Clinica Verde, and he brought with him his 75-year-old father because “he has headaches from a blow he received to his head,” and problems hearing as well as persistent back pains.
Dionisio is one of 4 children, 42 years old and single. For this reason, he says, he cares for his father. Dionisio’s sister-in-law and his brother had come to Clinica Verde for care in the past. “(My brother) told me the care is good here,” he said, adding with a smile, “but if I get sick when I’m here I’ll have to go back.”
Dionisio was very grateful for Clinica Verde’s Dr. Haldame Varela for his interest in his father. “He asked us lots of questions about all of his problems, but we didn’t have to wait long,” he said. Dionisio said he plans to return. He was happy the trip didn’t cost very much, and said the Clinica Verde is a place that offers great care for people who don’t have much money. He was happy with the quality and accessibility of medications at Clinica Verde, saying that the local health posts have a shortage of medicine, and what they do have is often too expensive for the poor to buy.
At the health post, Dionisio’s father was told he would always have to endure the headaches, whereas at Clinica Verde Dr. Varela suggested a series of tests and said that he will review the results with him during his next visit, as well as identify the problem with his hearing.
The father and son plan to return soon.
